REVEREND Steven Jo
Lead Pastor

Steven is not your average second generation Korean-American pastor. He was born and raised in the projects of Brooklyn NY, has a background in air traffic control, holds a degree in divinity, is writing his Ph.D dissertation in biblical hermeneutics, and is an ordained minister in the KAPC. Actually, the only thing normal about him is his wife Goeun “Grace,” and sometimes his two boys, Caleb and Oliver.

Suburban Philadelphia is definitely an acquired taste. It took some time for me to get used to. But I realize wherever you go the need for the gospel is the same. People are the same. The local church will always be the place where the gifts and powers of the kingdom of God are granted and received (H. Ridderbos). Philly is now home and the place where I worship and serve the Triune God.

There are still some things I can never disavow. My loyalty to the 90’s Giants, Ewing-led Knicks, Linsanity Knicks, Lebron almost to the Knicks Knicks, and the New York Metropolitans. I am hoping my strong distaste for all Philly sports teams will be won over by my love for Philly fans.

“On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18

pastor Walton Lee
Assistant Pastor

Walton is a Philadelphia native and grew up in Yuong Sang Presbyterian Church. He studied Exercise Science & Psychology at University of the Sciences and graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. He is married to Gloria Lim and has a son, Timothy.

His most impressionable seasons have been working in restaurants, playing football for the North Penn Knights and being part of the Renewal College Fellowship. His immigrant mother and father are the greatest examples of diligence and faithfulness he has ever known.

Driven by the Gospel and focused on the Kingdom, he is passionate about preaching and living life with not only the members of his church but also the members of the community.

I love anything that captures the broken pieces of our stories and weaves it into the bigger narrative of God’s redemption and restoration: music, lyrics, stories - movies, pictures, painting - watches, windows, seasons - sweat, sports, broken bones - cooking, food, and sweet endings.

Eternal Life Ministries (ELM) is the English speaking ministry of Yuong Sang Presbyterian Church (it is pronounced “Young” but written as “Yuong”…and no that is not a typo.  For the full story you’ll have to come visit us!).

ELM was started in 1990 as the English Language Ministry of Yuong Sang Presbyterian Church.  In 1994 the ELM acronym was changed to stand for Eternal Life Ministry, which providentially is the English translation of the phrase “Yuong Sang.”

The mission of ELM is to advance the gospel of grace in the lives of every disciple of Christ, in our congregation as a community of believers, and to the ends of the earth for the glory and the fame of Jesus Christ.

It’s exciting to us that our congregation is evenly split among our college students, working professionals, and families as we all worship together at our 9:30 am Sunday service.  We want to live out and practice the Titus 2 model of ministry – older men and women disciplining and training younger men and women in the gospel.

Our church is a part of the Korean American Presbyterian Church and under the Philadelphia Presbytery

We believe the Bible is the written Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure, except by His mercy.

We believe that salvation is by God alone as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.

We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His covenant promises.

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.

We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.

We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
